WHAT IS A PBX ?
PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange and is commonly used to describe any office phone system. Traditional PBX systems (like Nortel & Meridian) used analog phone lines to connect callers with extensions along with business calling functions like welcome greetings, recorded messages and interoffice calling. These systems were comprised of proprietary equipment (phones could only be utilized with that specific system), which regularly lead to issues concerning interoperability, business growth and maintenance.
The majority of new PBX systems today use VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). By exploiting the power of the internet, office phone users are now able to utilize features that were never dreamed of with old PBX systems. Imagine transferring a call to another extension halfway across the country! Call anywhere in the continental USA & Canada and never pay long distance! The future of office communication has arrived….
